Sustainability
enable people to care for themselves
The Need | LifeRise Strategy
Please see Orphans for our current active projects.
Sustainability relates to the economic capacity to meet acute needs through short-term relief and ongoing needs through long-term development. LifeRise AIDS Resources feels a sense of urgency to make a compassionate response to relieve immediate suffering; however, it is not our intention to render our beneficiaries or partners dependent on our assistance over the long-term. We believe that increased self-esteem and a sense of achievement proceed from attaining self-sustainability. Therefore, although our priority is to provide direct services to meet acute needs, we will also provide economic strengthening for persons distressed by HIV/AIDS and the programs that serve them to meet ongoing needs.
LifeRise AIDS Resources seeks to integrate sustainability into all our service delivery projects from inception. From time to time, we may have a separate sustainability project that we will describe in this section of our website.
The Need
Individuals suffering because of HIV/AIDS may not be able to maintain their livelihoods; they may descend into poverty along with their family members and their very survival will be threatened.
Christian organizations serving those wounded by HIV/AIDS may struggle to finance existing programs, limiting their capacity to scale up for greater impact. As small organizations, they do not have entrée into the international arena to qualify for resources.
LifeRise Strategy
According to our capacity, LifeRise will engage in individual sustainability efforts to help persons living with HIV/AIDS to care for themselves. We will also engage in program sustainability to assist our partners to expand their services.
Individual Sustainability
LifeRise AIDS Resources projects will help individuals infected with HIV/AIDS, orphans, and caregivers improve economic standing. Interventions may include: vocational training; income generation; micro-loans; appropriate technologies and household laborsaving devices; gardens; and, small-scale animal husbandry.
Program Sustainability
Building capacity of grassroots organizations leads them to be sustainable -- either through self-support or eligibility for other grants. LifeRise tiered, progressive grants system (see Grants) and network for technical support (see Technical Support) is designed to build the capacity of indigenous organizations for sustainability. Our grants can be no more than 25% of an organization’s operating budget, helping to ensure growth of our partners programs at a reasonable pace. Although LifeRise assistance may be considered to be on a small scale, we intend for our efforts to advance Christian organizations to qualify their service programs at national and international levels. In this way, they will be competitive for larger grants from international donors.
According to our capabilities, LifeRise may also help indigenous organizations with small-business development to make progress towards achieving self-sustainability and economic expansion.
