About Us
understand our capacity
LifeRise AIDS Resources is a charitable nonprofit ministry founded in the US in 2006 as a Christian response to HIV/AIDS. We partner with grassroots evangelical Christians in poor countries who are reaching out to those suffering because of HIV/AIDS in their local communities. LifeRise provides resources, such as information on best practices, training, medical and technical consulting, ministry skills, and funding, to help indigenous Christian organizations conduct AIDS prevention, treatment, and care projects and share the hope of the gospel.
The Need for Christian Response
Desperate HIV/AIDS Need
In just over two decades, HIV/AIDS has become a global epidemic of unprecedented proportions causing much suffering and death. The tragic effects of this disease extend far beyond individual health to the larger society, threatening families and social and economic structure. Resources and services are inadequate to meet the pressing needs.
The World’s Solutions Have Failed
The secular world has exerted substantial and heroic effort over the last 25 years to halt the progression of HIV/AIDS. Politicians, celebrities, and philanthropists have devoted themselves to the cause and donated funds on a grand scale. Yet, the destructive course of HIV/AIDS has not been arrested. Fresh approaches and new partners in the struggle are urgently needed.
The Church’s Response
The evangelical church has been slow to get involved. We have been like Jonah, sleeping in the hold of the ship while the storm rages on deck, allowing sailors who do not know our God to fight the storm alone. God is now calling the church to respond in this battle for lives in which the stakes are eternal. LifeRise AIDS Resources along with our local partners are answering this call.
Unique Assets the Church Offers
The church contributes the following important assets to the HIV/AIDS struggle:
- Churches have considerable presence and reach, serving even the most remote communities.
- Faith-based organizations (FBOs), particularly Christian missions, already provide most of the health and social services in poor countries. They need only expand to AIDS care.
- The church is a powerful agent to change individual beliefs and values and shape societal norms.
- Pastors have credibility in teaching, counseling, and emotional support in areas such as the value of life, understanding of suffering, morality, sexuality, and death and dying integral to AIDS.
- Christian organizations are a source of committed personnel who are altruistically motivated to serve others and do so with integrity.
